"Maybe I Can Do It, Too!"

Updated: May 10, 2022

“I am deeply moved when I see our children reaching their true potential. I know what they are capable of, and I decided to help them be the best they can be. These children are like my children, and I am here for them."

- Maureen, Finance Manager at Open Arms Village in Kenya

The children at Open Arms Academy are blessed with amazing teachers who understand that no two students are alike and that inspiration comes from different sources. Our teachers are always looking for creative ways to encourage students who struggled in certain subjects. Their passion has been so inspiring to other Open Arms staff that they have started volunteering in the classroom!

For the past two months, Maureen has been tutoring eighth-grade students in math. Even now, while they are on holiday, they asked if she could still teach them! Her influence and help make them feel capable and valued.

“It's nice to know that Auntie Maureen comes to teach us. If she understood math so much that she got the job of a finance manager, then maybe I can do it too,” said one of the students.

For James, math has never come easily. But after just a month of being tutored by Maureen, he improved by 30 points! “I never thought I would score such high marks in mathematics, but Auntie Maureen made me believe in myself."

Would you help us continue empowering our staff and teachers so they can pour into these bright young children? Pastors...government leaders...teachers...nurses...we can't wait to see who they'll become!
